dress hunt

Found:
vintage dress.
strong odor of blue dye rendered unwearable.
royal blue flowers, olive green.
Adding, layering, covering, blending
velvet. hand dyed cotton. commercial cotton, acrylic, rayon.

Laura's Tulips

Red and Orange tulip sewn by my great, great, grandmother.
The stitches are so even, the fibers of the fabric tacked cleanly into place.
Building around her work. Adding to the garden 70 years later.....


I am no doubt an impatient sewer...
My elder was anything but.
Her stitches catch my eye every few seconds.
Uniform and delicate. My hand moves in half
formed gestures.  Waving hello,  like a child.
